Language
Cuba's official language in Spanish , but Cubans are the highest percentage of people in Latin America that speak other languages apart from Spanish...some of this languages are :
- English
- German
- French
- Russian
- Portuguese
- Italian
As stated before Cuba's culture is influenced greatly by other culture or people. Meaning that their music and dance are also influenced. Today, popular Cuban music and dance styles include salsa, son, rumba, mambo, and cha-cha-cha.The instruments used include the claves, maracas, guiro, thumb piano (like the African mbira), and cowbell, as well as various drums, including bongos and a large conga. Some European-style instruments may also be used. In Cuban music, a special rhythm played on the claves (called the clave rhythm) sets the tempo and maintains it.
Etiquette
Cubans dress very informal , one of the main reasons for this is the humid climate.They are also informal when greeting you , they would use seῆor for man or seῆora for women.
Food
The food in Cuba is always very rich in flavor and very tasty. Typical Cuban food are;
- Black beans, white rice, yellow rice, citrus marinades, garlic, and fried sliced banana
- Olive oil and garlic marinades are often used as sauces
Religion
- 45% of Cubans are catholic
- A interesting fact is that Pope John Paul the Second officially visited Cuba in 1997
- 4% are protestant
- 2% are Santeria
- Santeria combines the worship of traditional Yoruban deities with the worship of Roman Catholic saints.
Cubans are known mainly for three things:
- Communism
- Sport (Boxing and baseball)
- Music
Cultural traditions
Many people may not know that Christmas was not celebrated in Cuba until the Pope visited the island and after which Christmas was restored as a holiday. Cubans also have many festivals such as:
- Festival del Habano
- International Havana Hip Hop and Rap Festiva
- Havana Carnival (Carnaval de la Habana)
- International Jazz Festival
